Russian artist Olga Chirnina (also known by her pseudonym, “Klimbim”) colorizes archival images of the last ball of the House of Romanov.

In late February 1903, a grand costume ball was held at the Winter Palace – the Hermitage museum in Saint Petersburg – which was the last of Tsarist Russia. The festivities lasted two days and were the most opulent ever organized during the reign of Nicholas II. It was dedicated to the 290th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty.
